 CULINARY DISCOVERY presents “Chocolate Decadence”

 A tasting of various chocolates followed by a demonstration
 of the classic dessert luxury, Chocolate Mousse

Culinary Discovery is an educational dining experience brought to you by an outstanding culinary connoisseur, Chef Kenneth P. Such.

Culinary Discovery provides superb cooking demonstrations focused on fresh, simple and seasonal ingredients. The objective is to introduce people to new foods, techniques and cultures while providing them with tools to develop their own taste preferences and culinary skills that will enhance their enjoyment of cooking and eating.

Class cost only $8 for a fun and entertaining afternoon filled with delicious food! Pre-registration is required.

It's your chance to walk the red carpet!

Celebrate cinema history with great music, food, and fun!  A "Godfather" inspired lunch of lasagna, salad, and garlic bread.  Tom Stanfield will entertain with his "Songs of the Silver Screen".
 

Test your cinema knowledge and try to guess this year's winners for your chance to win your own Oscar and other great prizes. BrightStar of Barrington will be offering 2 movie theater tickets as prizes and will provide dessert.   Tickets are $8. 

 

MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS AND DRUG PROGRAMS

Wednesday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m.

 

Senior Services Associates, Inc will present a two part program on how to find and compare Medicare Health Plans and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

 

Carol Lee of Senior Services will discuss the Medicare Part D program and what you need to know to choose the best Part D insurance plan for your individual needs.  Everyone should review their Part D insurance coverage each year as your medications may change.  Carriers also update their insurance plans annually.  Ms. Lee also helps seniors with their Circuit Breaker Illinois Cares Rx programs. Ron Newman of Mutual of Omaha will discuss Medicare Supplements as they apply when losing an Employer or Medicare Advantage Plan.  Many seniors also review their Medicare Supplement Plans at this time of year. ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATION—

McHenry Township invites you to celebrate the Shamrock!

Friday, March 16 at 11:30 a.m. 

 

A top of the mornin’ party where everyone is Irish and the wearin’ o’ the green will take place at McHenry Township Hall, 3703 N Richmond Road in Johnsburg.

 

Sherman’s Catering is preparing a feast inspired by Saint Patrick himself featuring corned beef & cabbage and baked herb chicken. Then Irish eyes will be smiling when guests are served an end-of-the-rainbow dessert treat!

 

Celtic music and sing-a-longs that will charm the leprechauns starts up the after luncheon entertainment. Then the sensational traditional Irish step dancers from the Rebecca McCarthy School of Dance will perform their high-energy dancing.

 

Residents $10.00 Non-Residents $12.00 Tickets will be issued and registration is required. Be sure to call in your reservation early as seats are limited.

 

Know Your DIGITAL Camera  WORKSHOP

Thursday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m.

 

Jerry Tomaselli will share the experience he has gathered over his 41 years as an award-winning Chicago photojournalist and teach picture taking techniques.

 

Learn how to use your digital camera from a pro! This class is perfect for all the new camera owners and will teach the various capabilities of your camera. 

 

Learn the difference between program and auto, when and how to use your flash, and information about f-stop aperture and shutter speeds.   By understanding your camera, you can take great photographs. Learn how to capture every moment perfectly.  Class fee is $5.  Registration is required.

 

AARP Driver’s Safety Program

Monday, April 2 & Tuesday, April 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

AARP Driver Safety Program is designed to help older drivers improve their driving skills and prevent auto accidents.  The eight hour class, in two half-day sessions, is offered to all individuals age 50 and over. 

 

Participants must attend both sessions.  Fee is $14.00; $12.00 for AARP members.  Registration is required.

 

CHICAGO CUBS HOME OPENER

Thursday, April 5; Game time is 1:20 p.m.

12:30 p.m. pre-game play Wii baseball

 

Cubbie fans, if you are not going to the game, come to the senior center to watch the home opener on our TV and cheer on your favorite team with us. This just might be the year!!

 

Before the game, step up to the plate and test your own baseball skills. Swinging the bat with our Wii baseball game.  We’ll have peanuts and cracker jack!

 

WHITE SOX HOME OPENER

Friday, April 13; first pitch is at 1:10 p.m.

12:30 p.m. pre-game play Wii baseball

 

You don’t have to be a Chicago southsider to enjoy the White Sox play ball!  Watch our favorite American League team on our big screen TV at the senior center. 

 

Come early and spend some fun time before the game working on your own skills while playing Wii baseball. It’s great pre-game batting practice! Of course, peanuts and Cracker Jack will be available.
