Absentee Voting

If you are planning on being out of town during elections, McHenry Township residents may vote absentee at the McHenry Town Hall the Friday, Saturday and Monday prior to elections.

To vote by mail:  Voters may request an Absentee Ballot from the Office of the McHenry County Clerk and offer a reason, such as being physically incapacitated or out of the County on Election Day. Since absentee voting laws remain in place, those people can still cast an absentee vote by mail by providing a reason as required under law.  For additional information please call the McHenry County Clerk’s office at 815-334-4242.

Early Voting

Many registered voters in Illinois are unable to vote in person at the polling place on election day. Early voting was created to allow the voter to vote in a designated polling place during the 22nd day through the 5th day preceding an election without having to supply an excuse or reason. This document provides general information regarding the correct procedures to follow in order to vote early in Illinois.

State law requires that a registered voter must show a valid photo ID before voting. Voters casting an early ballot must display a current driver's license, a state-issued ID card or another government-issued ID with a photograph.

Any voter who requests an "Early Ballot" or an "In Person Absentee Ballot" MAY NOT go to the polls on Election Day and revoke the ballot he originally requested. The law prohibits any voter who has been issued an in person absentee or early ballot from appearing at his precinct polling place and requesting another ballot.
