Hello McHenry Township Residents

As I write this, we have started a new year. We are still finishing up our assessment Appeals for 2025 and will soon begin working on 2026 values. 

Legislation has passed and been signed by the Governor to increase the income limit for the Senior Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption to $75,000 for 2026, using your 2025 income. Forms will be mailed to those who have applied in the past sometime around the beginning of March 2026 and will also be available here in my office. The change will be indicated on the 2026 Form.  

I want to emphasize to you the importance of paying attention to your property tax bill that will be issued in May 2026. The bill includes the fair cash value of your property for 2025 along with the property tax exemptions you are receiving and those you may be eligible for. If there are tax exemptions you feel you should be receiving and they are not listed on your tax bill, please call the office at 815-385-0175 and my staff will assist you. 

As a reminder, you may see our Township vehicles in your area, and this is an indication that we are updating our property records to make sure we have everything correct. My field staff is there only to collect information, including current photos and any updated information needed. If you have additional questions, please contact my office.
