Home Assessor
Autumn has arrived, and with it a busy season for the Assessor’s office. We are pleased to share several important updates and reminders to keep you informed about your property assessments and available resources.
We have enhanced the Property Search Feature on our website. You can now view photos and drawings of your property, along with simplified property characteristics. The feature also allows you to explore comparable sales and assessments, with direct links to the McHenry County GIS and McHenry County Tax Bills. Access the improved feature here:

Our 2025 assessments will be published on September 16, 2025, in the Northwest Herald. The final filing date is October 16, 2025. During the 30-day window following publication, we will host an Assessment Appeal Forum for residents wishing to discuss their assessments.
Please review your Property Assessment notice carefully. It provides crucial information about your current assessment and fair cash value. If you believe your assessment is too high, contact us so we can assist you with the Assessment Complaint process. Given the high volume of calls and walk-ins, we recommend scheduling an appointment for personalized service.
You will have two opportunities to attend this year’s McHenry Township Assessment Appeal Forum. The first will be Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Senior Center 3519 N Richmond Rd. The second will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the Township building 3703 N Richmond Rd.
Your assessment notice lists the property tax exemptions you currently receive, as well as those for which you may qualify. If you feel you are missing an exemption, please call our office at {815) 385-0175, and our staff will be happy to help.
From time to time, you may see our Township vehicles in your neighborhood. This means our field staff is updating property records, gathering current photos, and verifying any new information. Their role is strictly to collect accurate data; if you have questions, please contact our office.
We wish everyone a wonderful autumn season. If you need assistance, feel free to call us at (815) 385-0175 or send an email to: assessor@mchenrytownship.com.
Sincerely,
Mary Mahady, C.I.A.O.
