Right-of-Way Utility Permit

Per 605 ILCS 5/9 113, McHenry Township Road District (MTRD) requires a permit when working within the right of way of a MTRD roadway.  A permit must be obtained before any work begins and a copy of the approved permit must always be at the work site. Below is the process for applying for a permit for Utility Work in the right-of-way (new installations, maintenance of existing utilities, and utility relocations, mainly for utility companies)

Failure to obtain a permit from MTRD will result in immediate work stoppage until you apply for a permit and it is approved by MTRD.

MTRD will require the following to obtain a permit:

  • Engineering Drawings and Route Maps,
  • Boring and Trenching Specs,
  • Traffic Control Plan, and
  • Emergency Contact Information.

For large-scale and complex projects, MTRD reserves the right to have our engineering consultant review the plans.  This will require additional agreements between the parties. See attached Utility Occupancy Agreement and the Retained Personnel Agreement. This will be at MTRD’s sole discretion and in accordance with project specifications.
